Making Merthyr Tydfil Healthy, Wealthy and Wise!

Over 50 people attended Age Concern Morgannwg’s ‘Healthy, Wealthy, Wise’ event at Merthyr RFC on March 30th. The event was devised as part of the charity’s Healthy Ageing Project, intended to provide over 50s living in the local authority with advice on maintaining physical and emotional wellbeing into later life.

The event was opened by Age Concern Morgannwg’s CEO, Rachel Rowlands. This was followed by a focus on the benefits to be gained by ‘putting your affairs in order’, with information on will writing and powers of attorney provided by Catrin Griffiths of the local firm of solicitors, JNP Legal. Rolling workshops delivered by Lowri Rees from Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council and organisations including Age Concern Morgannwg, Safer Merthyr Tydfil, and the Stroke Association provided information and advice on a wide variety of subjects.

The afternoon session included two cooking demonstrations, aimed at promoting healthy eating and good nutrition in later life. Attendees were able to visit a variety of information stalls at their leisure, learning about a diverse range of subjects that included relaxation and aromatherapy.  Wii sessions ensured there was a strong additional emphasis on having fun and promoting interaction between different generations.

Age Concern Morgannwg is extremely grateful to everyone who participated and hopes that all attendees enjoyed an informative and enjoyable day.
